Mom Card in Serious Jeopardy

I am operating under a suspended mom card. Please don’t judge me. Let he (or she- we are equal opportunity here) who is without forgetfulness cast the first frying pan.

You know how yesterday was Wednesday? Wednesday. Yeah, Wednesday. The day oldest daughter gets out of school early. 1:00- EVERY Wednesday. And that’s what day it was yesterday.

1:15 the phone rings. Oldest daughter’s school was on the line: “Hey, did you remember that it was early release today, because it is Wednesday? We have oldest daughter here waiting to be picked up.”

Hello?! How could I have forgotten?

I wake up little son from his nap (the one where I had just put him in bed 10 minutes earlier), tear middle daughter away from planting weeds in a flower pot outside, and strap them in the car.

Rushing into the office, some lady (a teacher, I guess?) says, “You know, we have early release EVERY Wednesday at 1:00.”

Thanks, I know that.

The last thing I said to oldest daughter when I dropped her off at school Wednesday morning? “It’s early release today, I’ll be here at 1:00.”

WAY TO GO! ummm...how long have you been doing this (total time combined)? just joking. I think she will not hold it against you...unless you do it again next week. And don't you just LOVE those "helpful" people!!?!

Chalk it up to a new school year. Don't worry - she'll get even with you when she's 13. :) Better luck next week!

Yeah-well there are days when I wish I WOULD forget to pick up my kids from school! LOL...

Kids are tough and she'll get over it. They have long memories though. All it takes is for me to forget the kids once (and it's usually about once a year)and all I hear for the rest of the school year is "You NEVER remember it's early out". No mommy guilt on this one, though! You're human, she's ok, and the office staff will have forgotten by next week (when 10 other parents will do the same thing!). You're doing a great job!

Thanks for the post! It makes me not feel so bad about our own "experience."

So something similar happened to me yesterday! I look at the clock and it is 2:58pm and I think, "Yikes! Heidi gets out in 2 minutes!" So I go to wake up baby to put in the car and, not joke, he has had the biggest blow-out in the history of babies. I mean, he was literally swimming in poo! Ewwww! (Why does this seem to happen when you are running out the door?) So I throw him in the tub (I was very calm, I was so proud of myself!) and middle daughter exclaims, "That is so gross! I stinks so bad I can't stay in here." Needless to say I make it to school less than 15 minutes late, but oldest daughter is the last kid waiting out there. She says to me, "I am the last kid except for the older kids!" I respond, "I'm sorry, babe, you won't be last again." To which she responds with a shrug, "Someone has to be the last kid!" Good girl!

Don't feel bad... I did the same thing once and the sad thing is it takes me 20 min at least to drive to the kids school so not only was late but I was 20 min more later after the call... My excuse was that there half days weren't every Wednesday... see how much more confusing that can be...but really they sent home notes every week letting us know..so yeah I had a suspended card for a while...
