We have a sick kid at our house today. Oldest daughter is lying on the couch with her comfy pink monkey blanket and Mahoney- her sock monkey named after Natalie Portman's character in Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
I taxied her to school this morning. As she was exiting she mentioned something about an upset tummy. I thought perhaps she was just hungry and told her as much. She said, "It's not growl-y, it's achy." Still I thought she was hungry and encouraged her to hustle in to school and eat breakfast. (her school provides breakfast in the classroom to every student. It's wonderful. It cuts down on the time it takes her to get ready in the morning and ensures that every student has an opportunity for a healthy breakfast before diving into lessons.)
I received a call from the nurse not an hour later reporting that oldest daughter was in fact throwing up. And so I rushed to school to collect my little sick one. And her tears flowed as soon as I walked into the nurse's office. It touched me because I can remember the relief of my mom being there for me. And the tears that accompany this feeling.
Now we are home. And since we have a sick one, we have need for a throw-up bowl, which necessitated emptying the remaining Halloween candy from the stainless steel mixing bowl it has been occupying these many months. Because you have to have a stainless steel bowl for throw-ups.
My camera isn't working. This creates problems in our home because the children enjoy toting the camera around with them, documenting their every move. I have multitudes of pictures taken from the vantage point of a little person. The contents of their closet, the state of their nostrils, the carpet, the canine, the piggy banks lined up in a row, little feet, the block castle they constructed- usually with half of the castle just outside the frame of the picture.
Someday I will do a pictorial blog based on their photography. But today, I just wanted to get a shot of that Halloween candy. And I can't. Suffice it to say, it is a good amount. A bowl full. And now it is on the counter while its host is being used as a throw-up receptacle.
And the bowl is performing beautifully. Just as it has for the past 3 1/2 months as it cradled the candy. Stainless bowls are good that way.

Sure hope your little one feels better soon— sure sucks to be sick over a weekend.
I'm impressed. It's a good year if the Halloween candy lasts a week or more, never mind making it all the way to Valentine's Day. What amazing self control you all have! Can you teach us?
Oops, I posted too soon. Hope oldest daughter feels better soon. It is no fun being sick and throwing up is the absolute worst.
Wow, I feel bonded! I have a little sick boy on my couch with a puke bowl (tupperware not stainless) and watching a movie. I hope all bowls can be retired soon!
We are getting over the sickies at our house too! I'm glad for you though... because IT'S FRIDAY! Maybe tomorrow you will get some help from the hubby! I agree with Michelle~ hopefully SOON we can all put our throw up bowls to rest! (Until next flu season)
I hope she feels better soon! We still have halloween candy too! That stuff lasts forever, or until it magically is gone one day.
Thank goodness its friday! Poor little thing! I hope she begins to feel better without passing it around. (You can blame me for jinxing you if your others do get sick).
On a much lighter note..Stainless Steel Bowls are heaven sent!
sorry that she is sick... not a fun thing.
and- just a word of advise (from experience long ago) don't EVER let throw-up sit in a stainless steel bowl for any amount of time...it corrodes. yes i am embarrassed to admit that i know that.
Um, we use ice cream buckets. That way, no bad memories if I wanted to cook with it.
We just threw out the last of the halloween candy. Husband finally admitted that he was sick of tootsie rolls and that they were never going to get eaten, along with the questionable gummy candies.
Sick is bad enough. Sick at school is bad and embarrassing. Hope she's recovering quickly. Hugs to oldest daughter!
Sorry to hear she is sick! Hope the others don't gt it!
I have heard what an awesome lesson you gave last week. I sure wish I could have heard it...we were at our granddaughter's blessing.
hope she is feeling better by now. the only call i got from school last week was elizabeth in tears because her tights had gotten dirty on the bus...too funny. when it involves the bowl it can't be good. hugs your way for mom support. send chris out for some ice cream if you haven't already...
The life of a stainless steel bowl....i hope the next chapter isn't as mean as this one is.
Hugs to your dd, i hope she feels better real soon.

I hope your little one is feeling better soon. Sick season is not fun.
You still have Halloween candy? That is great going :-)
awwww.. I hope she feels better soon!!
I hope she feels better. Our daughter was sick too. Not fun.
I'm also glad you use a throw up bowl. I always had one when I was little, and it was a lifesaver. Some people think it's gross, but I would much rather not have to drag my sorry butt out of bed every time I felt the urge.
I'm so sorry you are going through this too. We've got the sicks around here as well.
I'm really impressed you could keep that candy around so long. Wow.
