Remember the kittens? (you can refresh your memory. go here and then here) I always see them running around the neighborhood. Hair uncombed. No shoes. Or even mittens. Looking like it's been days since their last meal.
Sometimes I feel like responding to Momma Cat with a little letter of my own. Sure her cats are growing up and almost out of her house, but what kind of citizens are they turning out to be? They totally roam the neighborhood at ALL hours of the day. In and out of people's yards. On their fences. Rummaging in their garbage.
I guess she really cut me deep when she wrote to me last. I think she must have put a curse on our lawn. We planted our winter rye grass and it is really struggling to grow. The shed is still a mess, but you know what? I have kids to raise- hair to comb, shoes to put on little feet. I just can't bother with a broken door. But my children are happy and well-fed.
I haven't found her blog yet. But then, I haven't really tried to find it. Just don't know if I could handle whatever it is she might say about me. So, I try to steer clear of the feline blog section. So far, so good.
Anyway, I just wish her the best. Raising children is hard. It takes a village, you know. I wonder if her village is helping. Because I'm pretty sure her Tom Cat isn't. Poor little Momma Cat. Maybe that letter was her way of reaching out.
Momma Cat, I hope you read this (and I think you probably follow my blog because there are a few unfamiliar url's on my sitemeter). You have my sincerest meow. Take it for what it's worth. And good luck with the kiddies. (get it? kiddies. like kitties, but kiddies. get it? funny, i know. i crack myself up- all the time.)

Letter from Momma Cat
Dear Lady,
I hear you have been talking about me. Even posting about me on your blog. That's just sad. Really really sad. I thought you were a good Christian woman.
That's fine. I've taken my babies. We've found another place to live. A place where my kittens can grow up with morals and values. Something that, judging by your example, your shed can't provide. And, your shed isn't all that. Come on, have you been out there lately? The door doesn't even close all the way. Oh, and your dog could beef up a little bit.
And by the way, mow your lawn.
I'm outta here,
Momma Cat

You think it's all ok to go on and on about how you don't like cats? Did you ever stop to think if cats like you? Miss high and mighty. I can raise these 3 babies to adulthood in a under a year (on my own, without that no good tom cat) and have them out of my house- doesn't it take you like, what, 18 years? It's ok, two can play at this game, just wait till you read what I have to say about you on MY blog.
And by the way, mow your lawn.
I'm outta here,
Momma Cat

We're Talking 135 Years, People
What did you do for Family Home Evening last night? My older sis and her fam took care of fundraising business for her oldest son's trip to Germany. My fam? Not so exciting. We only discovered that we have 4 CATS LIVING BEHIND OUR SHED! Yes we do. A mommy and 3 babies. Remember how the husband and I are so fond of animals?
I don't even know what you have to do to get rid of cats- humanely. We called animal control. They don't deal with cats. Yay. And, really, I hate to separate a mom from her babies. A little bit of the "Golden Rule" application here. Cause I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me. (please remember that if you ever find me behind your shed)
I was wondering how long we might expect these kitties to hang around, so I went to Google to see what the life expectancy of a feline might be. Around 15 years. And we all know cats have 9 lives- ergo (and you can check my math) we can plan on these cats being around for 135 years. Unless we can figure out what to do with them. Which we will. Figure out what to do with them, because my limit is like 100 years. Besides, I don't even know how I would get a cat to adhere to a curfew. You just can't parent those guys. So, sorry cats, you are out of luck.
The children vote to keep them. Um, I hate to tell them this, but they didn't even register to vote yet. And besides, they are under 18, so they aren't even eligible for a vote. Phew. Majority rules here. The husband and I are unanimous. The cats will go. The method is unclear.
Ideas?
