Chapter's End

On Saturday, the husband clipped his Landlord Keys to his belt loop and we headed across the valley to sign a rental agreement with a very nice couple who has two dogs. I admit, I have to giggle at the husband and his Landlord Keys. It's just one of the quirky, endearing kinds of things that I love about that man.

We said our final goodbyes to this place. Our renters signed on the dotted line and we gave them a ring full of keys. Keys for doors and gates and garages and mailboxes and sprinkler timer boxes.

And I felt like I needed to walk through the house one last time and turn off lights and lock up. But I couldn't, because it was their house now- at least for the next year- and I was a visitor.

A few weeks before as I was cleaning up the place, I paused in the kitchen to take in the emptiness of the house and felt the tears begin to well up in my eyes as I could hear the ghosts of three happy children playing in the family room. I could hear the thump, thump, thumping of little bums sliding down the stairs. I heard the giggles of joy of little ones at play in the back yard. I could hear the echoes of morning scripture studies and of coaxing little squirmy people into a circle for family prayer. All happy memories.

In all our 5 1/2 years in this home, we were blessed abundantly. And it was bittersweet to say goodbye. I don't know what is in store for us in our new home and new area, but I do know that the Lord is mindful of us and as we continue to serve Him, we will continue to be blessed. And we are excited for what the future holds for us.

In all of this, one thing is certain- those are some lucky renters. They have the hottest landlord in all of creation. And he has keys.

IT is hard to leave a beloved home. But the best is yet to come! And we are so glad to have you near to us! Can I just tell you how much I love having your family over here again?

This post took me back to when Scott and I packed up our little apartment in Provo. As we closed the door, I remembered, "We had our babies here." Tears sprung to my eyes as I read your post, remembering those feelings. Each chapter in our lives is so important, holding growth, joy, and pain. A house only becomes a home from those living within. We love having you and your sweet family closer too!
