Dream a Little Dream

I have blogged about my dreams before. I think it is time for another installment.

Thursday night as I was sleeping, I dreamed about someone I have met through blogging. So, really, I only know what I imagine to be her personality- Fun. With a little fun on the side.

When I woke up Friday morning I immediately sent her a message on facebook telling her about my dream. This is the message I sent to her: (doncha love how it sounds like i said it all in one breath?)

you were in my dream last night. weird, i know. this is what happened: i went over to your house to visit. and you were making something out of candy and then you took me to show me something in your laundry room and then you had this whole cupboard full of candy that your dad gave you. and then we were making a candy craft and you went to your other laundry room to get some glue. you had two laundry rooms! lucky!

and when i was leaving your garage door was only half-way shut, but you were able to pull your big suburban out of your garage without harming your garage door.
so, that is all.
hope you have a great day.

Just a couple hours later, I checked facebook and found this response (I'm sharing with her consent, of course):

OHHHHH MYYYYYY GOOOSH!!!!!!!!!that is hilarious!!!

you want to know what is so funny-- yet freaky-- about this??????

My DAD really did give me a whole lot of candy!!!! my great-aunt {his aunt} is going to a nursing home soon & he and his brothers were over there the other day cleaning out her pantry & her sewing room... and he gave me all of the sweets/ingredients/crafts/materials/ etc.....

and GUESS WHAT??????

we DO have 2 laundry rooms!!!!!!!!!!! one is used as a laundry room and the other is used as a PANTRY/SCRAPBOOKING/CRAFT ROOM!!!!!

and guess what else?????

well... i dont have a Surburban... but i do have a FORD EXPEDITION--its about as BIG as a Sururban!! and i am always scared to drive that thing in my garage because i am afraid it will get stuck because it is so tall and my garage door will not open all the way up to the top for some reason!!!

this is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am like totally freaking out here!!!!!!

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR DREAM WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that not a bit freaky? Like, if I were Merrianne, I would be way freaked out by me. Cause that is a lot of crazy stuff. But, truly, I am a nice person and I keep my stalking to the blogs. Except if you live near me, then I might consider stalking you in person. Kidding! JUST KIDDING!!!

***post edit: After I received this reply from Merrianne, I sent her another message asking if she had posted any of this stuff on her blog, and she said she hasn't. Whoa.

In the future it is possible I may pursue a career in the psychic arena. There may be something in there for me. I'm feeling it. And I'll probably cut you a little deal if you ever have need of my services. Like, *mention this post and you'll receive 50% your next reading.* I'll keep you posted. Because I'm sure you're looking for a good psychic. In the meantime, I'll be out shopping in the hopes of finding an appropriate wardrobe- because psychics usually dress really special.

However, if you ever do a craft, and if it involves candy, invite me over! I love crafts and candy AND, I'd love to see your two laundry rooms. Because, apparently, there are people out there with two laundry rooms.

Wishing

This evening the children and I spent some time enjoying the coolness in the backyard while the husband was away at a meeting.

Oldest daughter 'taught' us how to play bubblegum, bubblegum in a dish. (Hasn't that one been around forever?)

Little son regaled us with a fairy tale that went something like this:

Once upon a time there was a young man.
And he was a soccer boy, like me.
So once upon a time there was a soccer boy
who went into the forest.
And there was a wicked witch... (plus more that I cannot recall)
.
You must know that little son speaks in a manner that one would think he is puckering his lips while speaking. Yet he is not. He has a talent for un-puckered, puckered lip speech. And he says his r's and l's as if they were w's. And, yes, he seriously said 'young man.' hee hee.
Now, you should go back and re-read his fairy tale in his manner of speech. And you will smile. Because it is so stinkin' cute to listen to that voice.

As the sun finally dipped below the mountains to the west, little son asked if it was night time, because he "couldn't see the sun anymore." It was that magical time of day when sun and shadows are absent, but only the presence of a warm glow in the sky. And the world feels right.

I told the children to search the heavens for the first star of the night so that we could make a wish.

Middle daughter found it first. I guess because she is 5 now, star-finding comes easy.

And then we all listened as she made her wish.

"Star light,
star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish I could be a mom and have earrings."

After her plea to the heavens, we each took a turn sending our wish out in hopes of it being granted.

We listened as oldest daughter wished:

"Star light,
star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish I could have a collection of ladybugs."
.
And little son (with help from mom on the verse part- but it was all him on the wish. and don't forget the puckered-up voice):

"Star light,
star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish I could be a pirate."

And then the children asked what my wish is. And so I took my turn:

"Star light,
star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish my children will be happy and obedient."

I think that put a downer on the whole wish thing, because no sooner had my wish been uttered than middle daughter brought us all back around to the point of the exercise with her little:

"Star light,
star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish for only Dora's on TV."
Duh.
What do you wish for?
Only sensible wishes, please. Or middle daughter will be forced to remind you of the point of this exercise.

The Dentist

On the way to the dentist this morning, little son said, "Sister, did you know you were in my movie last night?"

To which middle daughter replied, "Do you mean I was in your dream?"

"Yep," he answered.

And so we made our way to the dentist where middle daughter had two of her lower teeth encapsulated in shiny silver. Such a reality check for the mom. What mom is proud of that? Not this one. And a resolution has been made: there will be way fewer sweets in this household from now on and more flossing.

On the drive home I giggled as I listened to her slurred speech. Her little bottom lip fat and lazy as she talked. And she spoke of how she didn't want to miss "pweskfool" (preschool) today. The closer we got to our home, the heavier her little eyelids became and soon she was fast asleep.

She awoke when we pulled into the garage and was awake long enough to climb up on the couch, wrap her cute little self in a comfy blanket and watch a couple minutes of t.v. before she drifted off to sleep once more.

And now, with her closed eyes, she is watching her own little personal movie. Perhaps she will repay little son and he will be in her movie.

Dream Giveaway, Re-visited.

So sorry to bring it up again, but remember that one time I had that one Dream Giveaway? (If not, go here and then here- but don't forget to come back here to find out the rest)

Ever since I announced that silly giveaway I have had strange dreams with people of no consequence in them. It has boggled my mind. I usually have great dreams, full of people I know. Not since the giveaway announcement. That is, until Saturday! That's right, guys- I finally have a winner! My friend Carolyn was in my dream on Saturday. Believe it!

Carolyn (and whoever else might be interested)- this is how your part went down. You know how dreams are, some parts are a little sketchy- but this is what I can remember. We were friends- of course- and you were not married and neither was I. But, you did have your girls (?) and a cool pink slinky bracelet. All of a sudden one of my boyfriends from high school shows up in town. I was pretty excited to see him because he is a great catch (to the husband: don't read anything into that- just a dream).

After a few weeks I noticed that you (Carolyn) were spending a lot of time with my ex-boyfriend and so I asked you about it- and I was feeling like the girl that doesn't get picked. You were pretty shy and danced around the issue, but eventually it all came out that you and he had eloped and were married. You explained that you hadn't wanted to tell me so my feelings would be spared and that you thought you could hide your secret marriage.

But then, you guys bought a Volkswagen Bus (we call them Libyan vans) and moved into it- and parked it in my back yard.

And then I woke up.

Thanks for visiting my dream. It was way fun. And since you are the dream giveaway winner, I will be stopping by your house with a box of dreamsicles (good thing you are local). Be expecting me. And please- share them with your kiddos and Josh and tell him that I am sorry you married my ex-boyfriend. I won't let it happen again.

Any of you are welcome to stop on by my dreams in the future and I will tell you what happens when I find you in one of those dreams.

foiled...

so, remember that one time i had that one dream giveaway? well, it pretty much blew up in my face. i have not had a dream with one recognizable person in it (except the husband who didn't even enter the giveaway) since i posted that fantastic giveaway idea. and i am being completely honest!

i think i have dreamed every night. and one of two things happens 1) when i wake up i can't remember my dreams, or 2) in the dreams i can remember i have no idea who those characters are- total strangers. i have come to the conclusion that the giveaway really created a lot of pressure for my dreams. it's pressure, guys.

so. forget about the dream giveaway... for now. my best advice is that you should move on to someone who has a real giveaway, cause obviously my dreams just aren't producing right now. sorry for all the hype. i know you guys were way excited at the thought of starring in one of MY dreams.

but, i think i will keep this one on the back burner, cause who knows, some night i'm going to see a whole bunch of thin, young, perfectly-coiffed, spectacle-less, dressed to the nines, free-day-loving, magically flying, jessica alba-ish, independently wealthy, laundry-hauling, snow falling, pregnant ladies with chocolate and no gray hair and i will instantly recognize you. and then you better be ready for the alert that you WON THE DREAM GIVEAWAY! i have faith it could happen.

{{{embarrassedly (probably not a word) lowers head, kicks dirt, and walks away}}}

Let me vent a little, would ya?

I would like to thank the individual with the oh-so-loud vehicle- car, motorcycle, atv, whatever- that woke up little son from his nap today so that I didn't have to. Because, really, I hate it when his naps last longer than 1/2 hour. And he really was sleeping way too long. Shameful of me to allow him to go longer than 29 minutes. What kind of mother am I?

And so he woke up all disoriented and nothing can satisfy him now. And he had an accident in his Batman underoos because he wouldn't let me help him. And then he didn't want to put on the new outfit I picked out for him. And so finally after 4 ensembles we are dressed and the tears are drying. And we are watching Wow Wow Wubbzy. And why is it that many of the shows on Noggin have ridiculous names? Pinky Dinky Doo, Yo Gabba Gabba, Oobi. And in Miss Spider it drives me nuts that they always say "somebuggy" or "everybuggy", etc. At least they have a connected learning approach. Whatever that is. Phew! Feels good to get that off my chest.

But, now we are happy at this house and ready to have a great evening. And we can't wait for the husband to return from California where he has been all day. And I learned how to do this--> ♥ <-- yesterday. (the heart) Not to mention that when I just checked my email, I got a free video from BYU Alumni Association: Cougar Diary 2007 BYU Football Highlight DVD: Cougars Reloaded. Wow. Gotta ♥ that!

And tonight will be full of sweet dreams. I can tell. Because lots of you have already chimed in to make special requests. But, in case you haven't, be sure to check the ♥Giveaway♥ post from earlier today so that I can see you in my dreams!

dream giveaway

giveaway? yippee!! because this is my 95th post.

hold off on celebrating the giveaway while i splain. this is not your typical giveaway. it is a dream giveaway- as in dream. like you do while you sleep. not dream like what you always wished for.

last night i had some pretty good dreams. as far as dreams go. the common denominator in all those dreams was that whoever actually called me (as in on the phone) yesterday found themselves in a starring role in my dreams. cool, huh? except there was the big guy in my third dream that i couldn't figure out where he came from.

and so what i am offering is a role in my dreams tonight. do you want a role? you don't even have to audition. all you have to do is call me. yep, easy as that. call me.

i know that some of you know my phone number and some of you do not. that is ok. for those of you who do not know my number- just call 555-3736. that should do it. and then, since that is not my real number but it is a great fictitious phone number because all fake phone numbers start with 555 and then the 3736 = drem because if it was dream that would be too many numbers so drem = dream, just leave me a comment right here on the blog and let me know you tried to call and i think that will be good enough. yeah, good enough.

now, you may be wondering how i will recognize you in my dream. especially if we have never met. well, this is the beauty part. in dreams, everything makes sense. you know how when you dream sometimes you assign the identity of a friend or loved one to someone who, once you wake up, you realize looks nothing like that person. so, of course i will know who you are right away. because that's how dreams go.

here's an idea. if you want to influence how your character looks or acts, maybe you could leave a suggestion for what you want in your comment. just an idea. i totally believe this will work.

i don't think anyone has ever done a dream giveaway. great way to celebrate post #95, no? we'll see how this goes. and i'll see you tonight. in my dreams!

I don't think she got the memo...

I admit to having a blanket fetish. Heaven help me. My kids always want to use my blanket- not theirs. They have a trazillion- or is it brazilian? tee hee . I have ONE blanket- only one. Can't an old lady enjoy her blankie without it being ripped away and used by a little tiny thing? I am beginning to think no.

This is my original personal blanket. It lasted only a few days before my kids discovered it and commandeered it.

No matter, thought I, I will just purchase a new personal blanket. Thus was born the green fuzzy fleece (from Kirkland's):

The green fuzzy Kirkland's special was soon discovered by one offspring and then another. It has been passed throughout the family and I was only able to enjoy its comfort and warmth a few short moments before I resigned myself to the fact that I should accept defeat and seek new pastures. Enter brown fuzzy fleece, also of Kirkland's:

Brown fuzzy was nice for a bit. But, alas, it was swept up by the undying love of a 2 1/2 year old. What to do? What to do? Right. Go shopping.

Accordingly, I was shopping at JoAnn yesterday. (If you don't mind, let me digress for a moment as I ask you: Why JoAnn and not JoAnn's? I hate saying the name of that store, because it kills me not to add the obligatory "apostrophe-s-" at the end of the name. Pretty much all stores called by a proper name add that apostrophe-s-. Like McDonald's, Mervyn's, Kohl's, Albertson's, Mimi's, um- Kirkland's, even Michael's, etc, etc. So, when I am talking about JoAnn, I sometimes go ahead and add the apostrophe-s- because I think most people expect that, yet when I do add it, I am left wondering if that person is thinking I don't know the correct name of the store. Yet, when I say the name in the proper way, I am left wondering if the person thinks I am not using the store name correctly. Did no one tell JoAnn this would be awkward? Quite the conundrum! ) Now we return to regular programming: I was checking out the clearance fabrics and came across this deliciously soft and fuzzy, although a bit juvenile and not too feminine, fleece. I mean, this is the soft, sink your body into, kind of fleece.

Ahhhhhhh, love it! ON CLEARANCE, might I remind you. I quickly purchased two wonderful yards! Bonus! Length is always important- this is something I was not getting out of my previous blankies. I came straight home and sewed up those edges and voila! instant heaven.

Never mind about the wizards and dragons. I have a long, soft blanket that I will be able to enjoy for the next two hours until it is whisked away by a little person and I am off to JoAnn to see what other treasures await. Meanwhile, you can go to sleep with a smile on your face, satisfied that I have had a little enjoyment out of this magic blanket. And, try not to laugh at this 30 something who has the wizard/dragon combo.
I know you want it.

NEWSFLASH...NEWSFLASH...NEWSFLASH...NEWSFLASH...NEWSFLASH.....

Oh, one more thing. Guess what happened last night? I won the silver medal for three person amateur normal clothes wearing street volleyball in the Olympics! Yes I did. It was amazing. Even more amazing because I was playing with two people I didn't know and we didn't even know we won the silver medal until it was the medal ceremony and they announced it. Boy were we surprised! But I was a little puzzled as to why our medals were on a normal necklace chain and not the beautiful red ribbons that everyone else was presented with. Then, our bouquet was a pot of planted chrysanthemums (I know how to spell that word because I learned it from Anne of Green Gables) with a shrink-wrapped cellophane pot. It was lovely. And the announcer really played up the fact that I love the Olympics so much and so she was thrilled that I was able to take home the silver. Oh, I can't wait to see what I accomplish tonight...(all curled up in the magic blanket)

addendum: shortly after posting this- within minutes even- the husband called to inform me that I had forgotten one blanket- in fact, the one that started it all even before the striped one- a maroon beauty with black blanket stitching around the edges. Oh, yes, the memories. What would I do without the husband?

P.S. The husband originally laughed at the magic blanket. Then later yesterday evening, when the children were in bed, he wanted to snuggle up in it with me while we were watching a movie. Are you kidding me? No one makes fun of my magic blanket and then tries to use it later. I think I'll repent and let him snuggle in it with me tonight.

Let this be a lesson to you, Cinderella

The other day I was talking to a woman who said this to me at the end of our conversation: "Well, I hope all your dreams come true."

I was like (thinking in my head), "Uh, wow, thanks. But you really need to stop and re-think what you are hoping there."

Cause I really hope ALL my dreams don't come true, because if they did, this is what my life would be like. For starters, I would spend the majority of my life half-naked in public, usually terrified as the world carries on about its business- not really giving me a second glance- and I'm left wondering how best to hide myself. I would also have a huge wad of pink bubble gum in my mouth that would be IMPOSSIBLE to get out. I would pull at it and pull at it and it would just keep on coming. And I would be trying to talk to someone and of course they wouldn't be able to understand me. And then I would stick my whole finger in my mouth and do a sweep, but it wouldn't do any good because the gum would still be filling up the whole opening regardless of all the sweeping and pulling I did. It would just stick in there. Never to be completely removed. Then, I would spend an eternity trying to open my eyes while performing life's daily tasks. I would be walking whilst reminding myself 'open your eyes', but they would only open for a split-second and then close right up again- not really conducive to walking. And then, I would find myself at the end of the semester, facing the final, and having only attended class one time. To make matters worse, this would be the last final before graduation. And of course, I wouldn't be able to remember the combination to my locker.

What I actually said, with an awkward half-smile on my face, to the lady who had this hope for me was, "Yeah, thanks. K, bye."

Lots of moms hope all their children's dreams come true. But knowing what I know, I will be an educated and sympathetic mom and say, "I hope all my children's dreams DON'T come true. Because I know for a fact they have nightmares sometimes. And I know for a fact that middle daughter's fingers were chopped off last Thursday night (possibly early Friday morning) by a guy that looked like Underwear."

So, well-meaning lady- I know you were wishing me the best in your most innocent and unimaginative way possible, but I have to say that you should think about your hopes for others. Because maybe, just maybe, your hopes for them are not what their hopes for themselves might be.

Oh, and Cinderella, I don't really think that in all cases a dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep. You're really beautiful and all, but also a little incorrect because I don't really think your heart would make some of the wishes that you dream of. Something to think about while you're feeding the chickens. Amen.
